What is different about paychecks in Louisiana?

Louisiana changed its income tax in 2025: one flat rate replaced the old brackets, and the personal exemption was folded into a much bigger standard deduction. On $60,000 of pay, a single filer owes $1,413.75 a year.

A head of household gets the same $25,750 deduction as a married couple filing jointly, double the single amount.

Louisiana’s withholding tables use a slightly higher rate than the real one, as a cushion, so a little more may come out of your pay than you owe. It comes back as a refund when you file.

Louisiana parishes and cities do not tax wages, so the state tax is the only one on your paycheck besides federal tax, Social Security and Medicare.
